Dubai Cut diamond unveiled

The Dubai Metal and Commodities Centre (DMCC) unveiled its new 99 facet “Dubai Cut diamond ” on December 6, 2005. This patented cut is produced only by Kristall Corporation (Smolensk Kristall) for DMCC. Kristall, the largest Russian polished diamond manufacturer, will produce a limited number of these diamonds, only around 1,800 stones annually.

Each Dubai Cut diamond will be laser-inscribed with a serial number and will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity stating that the stone is mined, cut and polished in Russia and meets the highest quality standards. The basic characteristics of the stone (color, clarity and weight) are also included.

Dubai cut diamond"The 99 faceted Dubai Cut diamond was inspired by the 99 holy names of Allah, and will become a national jewel," said Ahmed Bin Sulayam, Chief Operating Officer of DMCC. "We have a long standing relationship with Kristall and we have worked closely with them over the past years to establish trade relations and sharing of vital information with regards to the industry.”

"We are extremely delighted to join DMCC as an exclusive partner to create this piece of art,” said Maxim Shkadov, General Director of Kristall. “Dubai has rapidly emerged as a global hub for the diamond industry, with DMCC at its center through industry dedication and the creation of innovative products and services. The Dubai Cut will further enhance Dubai's position in the global diamond world.”

Only member companies of the DMCC will have the opportunity to qualify for a license to sell Dubai Cuts diamonds, starting in mid-February. The DMCC said the number of license holders will be strictly limited. According to the local Khaleej Times, the stones will all be VS quality and H color or better and will weigh between 0.50 and 99 carats. The first stone, weighing 1.11 carats and bearing serial number “Dubai 0001 DMCC,” is already in Dubai, according to the newspaper.

The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) is pleased to announce the launch of the dazzling DUBAI CUT diamond.  The DUBAI CUT is the latest stage in the development of Dubai into an important world centre for the diamond industry.   Produced by Russia’s leading diamond manufacturer, Kristall and trademarked by DMCC, this innovation is a truly majestic gem.

The DUBAI CUT symbolises Dubai in many ways. In its light and beauty it reflects the brilliant sunshine and pristine waters of the gulf. Its clarity and reflective qualities symbolise the transparency and openness of Dubai. The ambition inherent in the creation of a unique new cut symbolises the ambition and vision of Dubai. And of course most importantly its 99 facets are inspired by the 99 holy names of Allah.

Around 1800 DUBAI CUT stones will be produced per year, meaning that there will be a scarcity value for the Cut. This will ensure that the DUBAI CUT will remain a desirable and precious brand far into the future.

Using a combination of traditional skills and leading edge technology, Kristall is a natural choice to produce the DUBAI CUT. It has always been in the vanguard of the industry and is today one of the major players in the international market. For over forty years, the company has manufactured diamonds of superb quality, ideal proportions and magnificent brilliance while strictly adhering to the highest industry ethical standards, including a commitment and track record of leading the fight against blood diamonds, conflict diamonds, and child labour.

The licence to sell these exquisite stones will be limited to a few qualifying DMCC member companies who will be required to meet some stringent criteria.   The application process will begin in February 2006 at which time DMCC members will be invited to an exclusive and detailed presentation.
