Diamond thrills - Now it's rent a rock: Luxury jeweller loans diamond necklaces for £200 a night for diamonds rentalBy Clover Stroud found on 07th December 2009 at dailymail.co.uk photos Ben Lister
Radiant: Clover Stroud wears a Diamondthrills necklace and bracelet‘Have you had Botox? You look different. You don’t usually look so...’ The fashion magazine editor I’m chatting to pauses and takes another swig
of champagne, clearly struggling to find the right word. ‘Radiant,’ she says. ‘You’re glowing.’ I beam back. She’s not the
first person to praise my appearance this evening. The secret behind the source of all these compliments is a lot more expensive
than a few shots of Botox. Diamonds - in my case a £39,000 diamond necklace draped around my
decolletage, and a £40,000 chunky diamond and white gold bangle on my wrist -
really are a girl’s best friend. Sadly, I have not won the lottery. These diamonds are mine for one night
only, hired from Diamond Thrills, which specialises in hiring out luxury
jewellery. At £200 to hire a necklace or bracelet worth tens of thousands of pounds,
it’s a relatively cheap way of looking a million dollars. Jamie Mordaunt, who set up the firm, agrees to deliver the diamonds as I’m
getting ready for the party. I’ve never owned a diamond and I’m dazzled by
the glitter laid out before me. It’s not the size of the stones that impresses me, but the way they catch
the light. I feel like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman in the scene where Richard Gere presents her with a diamond necklace.
I am nervous walking around London in enough diamonds to pay off my mortgage. The effect the diamonds have on the people around me is remarkable. At St Pancras, I trot into a café to ask directions. The waiter points me in
the right direction and I see him clocking my wrist several times, sending me on
my way with several ‘Ciao bellas!’.

I’m told more times than I can count how well and happy I look. But as the
party ends, the diamond magic does, too. On the stroke of 10pm, James returns, briefcase in hand, to claim his
diamonds. Luckily, there’s enough champagne to compensate for the fact I have
to lose my jewels.
